Congratulations on your pregnancy!

I'm glad you're here to see how Sweet Blessings Doula Services can help with your birth experience and beyond.

The term "doula" comes from the Greek word meaning "female attendant for the childbearing woman." Today the term has come to further mean one who "mothers the mother."

My desire is that you have the best possible start with your newborn. This begins in pregnancy, taking care of yourself and the baby within you. As a birth doula, I offer continuous emotional and physical support during labor as well as  assistance in obtaining needed information concerning childbirth. A good birth experience enhances the early mother-infant relationship and establishment of breastfeeding.I want you to be supported in this time you'll remember all your life. My desire for you is to have the birth that is best for both you and the baby within you.

The postpartum period (first 6 weeks after the baby is born) poses its own joys and challenges. Do you know that many cultures take special care of the mom during this time so she can get rest and focus on her newborn? As a postpartum doula, my role is to come alongside you in the hospital  after the birth or in your home, to support you as parents so you can nurture your newborn, to allow you much needed sleep by helping in practical ways, to teach you skills so you can grow in confidence in your role and to encourage you in this beautiful and important task you are undertaking as the parents of a precious individual!

Having a doula is not just a recent fad! In nearly every culture throughout history, women have been surrounded and cared for by other women during childbirth and the postpartum period. You deserve this special care that is best for you and your newborn.
